NFC‘s Secret
Old Li is an honest retired worker whose greatest hobby is fiddling with his smartphone. Recently, he has become fascinated by the NFC function of his phone, feeling that it is extremely convenient. He can pay with a tap and even use it as an access card.
One day, while Old Li was strolling in the park, a young man in a suit approached him and enthusiastically struck up a conversation: "Sir, that's a nice phone you have there, and it even has NFC!"
Old Li nodded proudly: "Yes, technology is really advanced these days!"
The young man smiled mysteriously: "Sir, I have some inside information that can 'upgrade' your NFC function. You'll be able to ride buses and subways for free, and you can also get all kinds of coupons!"
Old Li's eyes lit up: "Such a good thing? How do I upgrade?"
The young man took out his own phone and asked Old Li to place his phone against it: "Come on, tap the back of your phone against mine, and I'll send you an 'upgrade package'."
Old Li, without suspicion, did as he was told. The two phones beeped, and the young man smiled and said, "Okay, sir, try it now, I guarantee you'll be surprised!"
Old Li excitedly went to try it out, and sure enough, the gates of buses and subways "opened their doors" to him, and he even received a supermarket coupon. Old Li was overjoyed and extremely grateful to the young man.
For the next few days, Old Li showed off his "upgraded" NFC to everyone, attracting a lot of envy. Until one day, he went to the bank to withdraw money and found that his pension account was empty.
Old Li panicked and immediately called the police. After investigation, the police told him a cruel truth: the young man was not an "insider" at all, but a fraudster. He took advantage of Old Li's ignorance of the NFC function and secretly copied Old Li's bank card information through the "tap" method, and then fraudulently withdrew his savings.
Old Li was dumbfounded. He couldn't understand how this convenient "tap" had become an accomplice to the scammer.
What made Old Li even more frustrated was that the police told him that similar cases had occurred frequently recently, and most of the victims were elderly people. Scammers use the elderly's unfamiliarity and curiosity about new technology to fabricate various lies about "upgrades" and "benefits" to defraud them of their money.
Old Li sat on a park bench, looking at the "advanced" smartphone in his hand, with mixed feelings. He remembered the young man's sincere smile, his own smugness when riding buses and subways "for free", and the missing pension in his bank account...
Suddenly, Old Li's phone rang, it was a text message: "Dear user, your phone's NFC function has been successfully upgraded. From now on, you can enjoy free rides on any means of transportation worldwide, and there is also a mysterious gift package waiting for you! Click the link for details..."
Old Li looked at the text message, the corner of his mouth twitched, and then he silently turned off the NFC function of his phone. He decided that he would go back to using his old-fashioned wallet and bus pass.
After all, in this era where a "tap" can change everything, who knows what the next "tap" will bring, surprise or trap?
