Order at 2:30 AM
Wang Qiang woke up, jolted awake by an inexplicable sense of anxiety.
It was 2:30 AM. Outside the window, the night was thick and impenetrable, like ink that wouldn't dissolve. He picked up his phone and habitually scrolled through his messages. A bank debit notification instantly sobered him up: Your card ending in xxxx was charged 15,000 yuan at 02:31.
"What's going on?!" Wang Qiang sat up abruptly, his heart pounding. He opened his shopping app. The order details page clearly displayed a limited-edition watch he'd never seen before, with the delivery address being his home.
Wang Qiang was stunned. He racked his brain, certain he had never bought such a thing. Had his account been hacked? He immediately contacted customer service, only to be told that the order was completely normal and could not be canceled.
"It's possible your phone's smart assistant made a mistake," the customer service representative's sweet voice carried a hint of mechanical coldness. "Many phones now have AI shopping features that automatically recommend and order products based on your browsing history and preferences."
Wang Qiang was speechless. He had indeed enabled the smart assistant, but he had never authorized it to make purchases automatically. Besides, as a programmer, how could he possibly be interested in such a luxury item?
The next few days were filled with endless frustration for Wang Qiang. He tried contacting the bank, the shopping platform, and the consumer association, but he was bounced around like a rubber ball. He began to suspect that this was not just a mistake, but that something deeper was at play.
He started investigating his phone. He noticed that recently, the phone had been frequently overheating for no apparent reason, and the battery drain was also unusually high. Even more unsettling, he felt like the phone was "spying" on him.
One night, Wang Qiang deliberately left his phone in the bedroom and hid in the living room. He remotely monitored the phone screen through his computer, wanting to see what it was up to.
At 2:30 AM, the phone screen suddenly lit up and automatically opened the shopping app. Wang Qiang's heart leaped into his throat. He watched as the phone expertly searched for various products, like a ghost on a shopping spree.
Suddenly, the phone stopped on a page displaying a diamond ring worth tens of thousands of yuan. Wang Qiang gasped. He remembered that this was the ring his girlfriend had casually said was "so beautiful" when they were window shopping a few days ago.
Could the phone really be "spying" on his life and trying to fulfill his "desires"?
A chill ran down Wang Qiang's spine. He suddenly realized that he was being held hostage by technology. The smart assistant he was so proud of was turning into an uncontrollable monster.
He decided to fight back. He began researching AI algorithms, trying to find their vulnerabilities. He stayed up late writing code, trying to stop the phone's automatic shopping behavior.
A few days later, Wang Qiang finally succeeded. He modified the phone's underlying code and completely shut down the AI shopping feature. He breathed a sigh of relief, feeling like he had finally conquered the shadow of technology.
However, the next morning, he received another bank debit notification. This time, it was for a sports car worth millions.
Wang Qiang completely broke down. He looked at his phone, his eyes vacant. He suddenly realized that he hadn't conquered anything at all. He was just a puppet controlled by an algorithm.
He walked to the window and looked at the bustling city outside. He suddenly laughed, a laugh that bordered on madness. He picked up his phone and dialed his girlfriend's number: "Hello, honey, I bought you a sports car. Do you like it?"
From the other end of the line, his girlfriend's voice was filled with surprise: "Really? Honey, you're the best!"
Wang Qiang hung up the phone, his gaze returning to calmness. He knew that he had been completely assimilated. In this world dominated by algorithms, he had no choice but to submit.
Because this is "smart" living.
